Time magazine reporters caught up with Ayman Abu Aita, a respectable middle class family man, and exposed Bruno Movies’ video editing tricks and lies to fabricate the soundbites. It is a real shame that Sacha Baron Cohen had to go this far to make a quick buck. The interviewing scene might be a result from the Austrian fashionista’s lack of ideas and creativity.
No matter how much we love the Bruno character created by Sacha Baron Cohen, it is time to move on as SBC will be focusing all his energy on the next movie. When you thought all the issues and parodies have been addressed by the Bruno Movie, more controversy are likely to resurface when Bruno launches in Mexico cinemas in September. The scene where Bruno treats Mexicans as human furniture will not be well received by a whole nation of Mexicans.
In general Mexicans work very hard in US to earn a subsistence living, taking on any jobs available and often times as day laborers. These jobs are never glamorous, and truth be told that it is always at the lowest level of the food chain. If you have work that no one else wants has become synonymous to hiring a Mexican.
A very well written article by Joe Mirabella, who is gay and supports Bruno, points out the important issues that are brought to light by the movie.
And finally, GLAAD is ignoring the amazing conversations that Bruno created. The water cooler discussions are not jokes about gay parents as GLAAD said it would be, but rather a discussion of the violence Bruno experienced at the end of the film during the cage fight. People are talking about the Christian trying to “cure” Bruno of his homosexuality. People are talking about celebrity and the desperate lengths people will go to achieve it. People are talking about Paula Abdule sitting on the back of a Mexican.
Obviously Joe is not the only gay supporter for Bruno. It is just that he’s much more well written and vocal about movie. Enjoy the article to get different views of a controversial movie that has potential to attain cult status.
